I recently met Saloni Kothari at the Vegan India Conference, where she shared her passion project with me — a vegan food venture called Zessa. She generously sent me some of her newly launched products to try, including a gluten-free vegan bread, butter, cheese spread, and a gluten-free flour blend.

I’m always grateful when people take the initiative to create new vegan products. So many people want to shift to a vegan lifestyle, but hesitate because they’re afraid of giving up their comfort foods. That’s why ventures like Zessa are so important — they help make this transition not only possible but enjoyable.

Saloni’s vision is to make Zessa a one-stop vegan shop in South Mumbai, offering everything a new vegan might need. I must say, I found her cheese spread, butter, and bread to be absolutely delicious. While they aren’t strictly whole foods plant-based — they do contain some oil — I appreciated her efforts to use clean, healthy ingredients. She’s consciously avoided preservatives, food colourings, trans fats, and other harmful additives.

Zessa also has a range of healthy snack items, which adds to the convenience and appeal for anyone looking to embrace a healthier, plant-based lifestyle.

At times, I worry that in a rapidly expanding market — where even big brands are merging and competing for space — smaller ventures with unique value propositions might get overlooked. But I truly hope that brands like Zessa continue to stand out, because their contribution is not only valuable but necessary.

Zessa, I have seen their products today, I’ve tasted many of them And they are actually fulfilling the requirement of, non-animal protein, stuff, which many of our athletes actually need. Those vegeterians were keen not to get any ordinary quality products, you know, and at the same time, fulfilling all the requirements. Zessa is actually really offering them very well. I would very strongly urge you to try them out and then maybe repeat that. if you feel that you are comfortable all the best.
I’m blown by the variety of dips and vegan butters that Saloni has crafted it is so amazing. The flavors are so delicate yet so balanced little balance and if you are a lover of everything clean and good and plant-based, you have to try zessa’s butter and dips.

The Sprouted Sorghum & Foxtail Millet loaf was the best bread I’ve ever eaten. The toast turned crisp on the outside and stayed soft inside. Just two slices were enough to fill me up! With the Chilli Garlic Cheese spread on top, it felt like I had eaten 4–5 regular bread slices and then the magic happened. My sugar levels, which were at 120 before breakfast, rose to only 128 after two hours compared to 220 with regular bread! I was shocked to realize I could skip my usual insulin shots and comfortably wait until lunch at 2 PM without needing any more insulin.
